Black Slate Escaladei is importer Eric Solomon’s village-wine collaboration with La Conreria d’Scala Dei, in the Priorat village where Carthusian monks first planted vines. The 2021 is Garnacha with 3% Syrah from vines planted in 1978 and 2001, half fermented whole-cluster, raised in 3,000 and 5,000-liter Stockinger foudres. Wine Advocate gave it 92+ and called it pretty elegant. Real Priorat slate character without the usual Priorat price. Only 14,000 bottles made.
