Ancient Peaks’ Merlot comes off the same Margarita Vineyard as their Renegade blend, on Santa Margarita Ranch outside Paso Robles. The 2022 is 91% Merlot with small amounts of Malbec, Petit Verdot and Petite Sirah blended in, aged 18 months in French and American oak. This has become one of the region’s best-known Merlots, and at this price it’s an easy call for anyone who still loves the grape and doesn’t want to overpay for it.
