Sodale is Famiglia Cotarella’s second Merlot, drawn from the same 15-hectare vineyard in Castiglione in Teverina that produces Montiano, their flagship. The Cotarella brothers, Riccardo and Renzo, are two of Italy’s most famous enologists, and Lazio is their home turf. The 2021 is 100% Merlot, fermented in steel, then aged nine months in barrique. Dark chocolate, licorice, and porcini depth with juicy power underneath. Baby Montiano at a fraction of the flagship’s price.
