Devaux is the standard-bearer of the Côte des Bar, Champagne’s Pinot-loving southern reaches, and the Cuvée D collection is its prestige line. The D Millésimé is made only in years worth declaring, and 2012 was one of Champagne’s great modern vintages. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the best plots, then a full seven years maturing on the lees before release. All that patience shows. This drinks like a wine, not a party trick.
