Cristal is Louis Roederer’s prestige cuvée, and 2014 is razor-sharp: 60 percent Pinot Noir and 40 percent Chardonnay from the house’s organically farmed grand cru plots, with no malolactic and a scant 7 grams of dosage. Wine Spectator scored it 98 and ranked it in the top ten of its Top 100. Buy it for the retirement toast or the fortieth birthday; it will outlast most of the guests.
