Etz Grüner Veltliner — Kamptal, Austria 2025
The story behind this bottle is one of the great underdog moments in Austrian wine. Franz Etz farms 30 hectares of vineyards in the Kamptal — one of Austria’s most celebrated regions for Grüner Veltliner — and produces wines of quiet, consistent excellence. Then came the blind tasting: 14 of the world’s top sommeliers, 600 Grüner Veltliners entered, and Franz Etz’s wine came out on top. The recognition that followed led him to create a special 1.0L bottling of his fruit specifically for the U.S. market — a generous format designed to share, and priced to make it an easy yes at any table.
The Etz Grüner Veltliner 2025 pours a pale, bright straw. The nose is clean and classically Kamptal — citrus, green apple, white pepper, and a subtle mineral lift from the region’s loess and primary rock soils. On the palate, it’s refreshing and well-structured with lively acidity, a dry, focused mid-palate, and a crisp, lingering finish. Everything Grüner Veltliner should be: precise, food-friendly, and endlessly drinkable.
